What A Week

I had such high hopes of getting to post this week.

About things such as:

* Valentine's Day
* Fasting
* Why the word, "obedience," makes me want to punch things, yet actual obedience (to God, that is) always plays out well
* Emotional Intelligence
* Why I love my husband so much
* Beginning a list of Pregnant Fears, from the ridiculous ("What if I go bald because my hair keeps shedding?") to the more serious ("Really!? I'm already worried about how good of a mother I am and he's not even here yet.")
* The Demon Dog that lives on our street and/or the pack of feral cats that lives around our house and how I want one to take out the other.

Unfortunately both my husband and I had an intense work week that left little time for anything outside of basic life management skills... like showering.

However, today was a much needed and lovely day off. The kind of day that finally allowed me to do laundry, and take a long walk with Husband, and cook a decent dinner, and pluck my eyebrows.

I still want to post about a few of the topics above and plan to this week, so stay tuned. Meanwhile, I'd love to hear how your week was (the crazy or not-so-crazy parts of it), and I'll leave you with a picture of an early birthday gift from my amazing in-laws:

I've been wanting a pair of maroon converse for quite some time. I'M GOING TO BE SUCH A COOL MOM IT'S RIDICULOUS.

Happy Monday!

Here Comes the Sun

Kyle and I went outside for Spring Break.

It was fantastic! I love a cup of hot tea and cute scarf as much as the next person, but warm weather and I are M.F.E.O., and though losing an hour of sleep is not fun, gaining an hour of sunlight in the evening more than makes up for it.

We drove down to the hill country for the week. It's really hard for me to believe there's a prettier place. Especially when you get to experience things like this on a daily basis:

That sunset, a back deck, and a Shiner make for a nigh unbeatable spring evening.

Anyway, the point of this post was not to spiral into yet another, "Why are Texans so inordinately proud of where they're from?" moment.

The point WAS to say, go do things outside - even if it's nothing but sitting.

Also, I'm trying to make this blog more official. I've done some not-so-serious surfing of the web to look for sites that will create a design that's tailored to me and what I want this blog to be. I don't mind paying some, as I've noticed if anything is going to happen with this whole writing business, it's probably going to cost some money. So if anyone has any good resources they're willing to share, please do!

I also may try my hand at designing my own. So uh, we'll see how that goes.

When you visit it may look slightly different, but bear with me. We'll just say that this blog is becoming an adult, and the process for it may be just as awkward as it has been for its creator.

And Away We Go

My husband and I will be married for six months on Friday. We will also be celebrating our launch into full-time ministry this weekend.

With two semi-big milestones coming up I decided to (finally) get around to creating a blog.

Why? Because I think that there's a lot to write down when you're experiencing a new marriage and a new career; and if I'm ever going to get any better at writing I might as well begin practicing it and see what people think.

My husband doesn't believe in blogs.

I tried to politely explain to him that, unlike his preconceived notions, not all blogs were random entries of poorly written emotional vomit that people have no business displaying to the public - especially the internet.

"There's a high culture to the blog world," I said. "A lot of well-known and well-respected authors keep blogs."

His response:

"Well just because a super-model goes to the bathroom every once in awhile doesn't mean people want to see it."

Touche.

Now - my husband doesn't really pay attention to American culture. (I spent most of high school reading People and Us while he was reading the desert fathers.) So it surprised me that he used super-models as an example.

He was a philosophy major in college, though, and I couldn't really deny his logic.

As different as my husband and I are in many areas, we are very similar in others. The biggest being our passion for truth.

It is because of this that we will be working in college ministry over the next several years.

I can think of no other environment where truth is called into question and redefined more than on college campuses, by professors and students alike.

Our hearts are to point people toward what is true - toward the Truth, specifically; and to do so in love. Because with truth there is freedom & vision, which yields life.

We also know that wielding truth without grace does no good.

Hence the blog title.

So this will be a place where I write about the truth I learn in marriage, in ministry, and in life. Hope you enjoy!

p.s. There will also be many pictures because certain parts of me haven't matured past elementary - mainly the one that finds things easier to read with pictures. I find it easier to write if I use pictures as well.
