Ready for Fall

I wanted to post a quick update.

Z has been blessedly taking longer naps lately. I hear moms talk of these "three hour naps" and it is a hope of mine that we will one day get there.

"Up?"

His face after I told him no, not at this moment.

Usually Z's nap time has been my writing time, email time, or just-sitting-on-the-couch-with-my-brain-turned-off time, but recently it has been my nap time as well.

Someone once described pregnancy-fatigue by telling me to add hiking a mountain to the list of things I do during any given day.

This isn't always quite true, but it is more often than you'd think. So, even though it can feel incredibly frustrating to need an hour nap on top of sleeping nine hours every night, such is growing a baby.

As I'm sure you've noticed I changed up the blog quite a bit. Okay, I know this is nothing compared to what a professional could do, but I'm going to be honest and say that I called my husband after finishing and bragged about how awesome it looked.

Hopefully I'll be able to add a few more changes. I had no idea there was such a wealth of information about basic html coding and design tips for your blog a few mere Google searches away.

To add to this pretty mundane post, I've been baking more. I started with this blueberry cream cheese bread I've been wanting to do for awhile:

It was... okay.

I forgot that I'm not the biggest fan of blueberries, and I over-baked it a bit so the cream cheese was um, gross, and the bread kind of dry. Luckily my husband loves blueberries and is the least pickiest eater on the entire planet.

However, I made up for the bread letdown with this ridiculously good pizza crust and some equally ridiculously good yeast rolls, both of which I forgot to take pictures of. Boo.

Last weekend our church had their annual fall retreat for college students. The weeks leading up to this retreat are easily the busiest of our ministry year, so we've been detoxing since then by watching Call the Midwife on Netflix, and by we I mean me.

Back to the retreat, it was amazing. Kyle taught one of the main sessions, and let me tell you something, it's always a slightly surreal (but cool) feeling when you listen to your spouse giving a sermon and feel convicted and inspired and encouraged. It kind of makes you feel very proud of them and perplexed that this is the same person who you get mad at for leaving their dirty clothes on the floor all at the same time.

Finally, I'm ready for a real cold snap. Like mid-forties cold snap. That's possibly why I've been baking so much. My subconscious is ready for it to be autumn.

I bought a pumpkin for our front porch and thought, "I feel like a fraud. It's 90 degrees outside."

Come on, boot-n-scarf weather, I'm ready.

I can imagine that would be surreal!

And yes, I'm itching to pull out my scarves too. :)

  2. I haven't read blogs in a while, but thought I'd check yours out today. I know Zeke probably looks even more grown up now, several months later, but I can't believe he's a little boy now instead of a baby!!! He's so big!
